Our goldfish
Proudly presenting Bubble and Squeak. Bubble and Squeak have been with us since the beginning of the spring term. We all take turns feeding them. There is also a snail called Garry! Isn't that just the best name for a snail? We love our gold fish.

Art week in the 5/4 Deers
The children at Roydon Primary School have been involved in art week this week. To begin with we looked at Henri Matisse and tried to recreate some Matisse style paintings, mixing colours and using the correct brush strokes.
Within our maths lessons we learnt about tessellating shapes. We also experimented with tangrams.
Here are some of our repeating patterns and some of our tangram designs.

Visitors from Ancient Greece
We were treated to an afternoon with an Athenian woman and a Spartan man. We learnt a lot about the differences between the two sets of people. We asked our visitors many questions about their cultures and habits. These included:
- The lives the children had
- The lives the woman had
- The men's professions
- What they would have eaten
- How their homes may have been decorated

The Minotaur's Maze...
We have begun reading some Greek myths. On Monday and Tuesday we have begun looking at Theseus and the Minotaur.
We learnt about The 7 men and 7 women that were sent from Athens to King Minos each year. These men and women were sent to stop the threat of war, and were food for the dreaded Minotaur... The Minotaur lived in a maze and was half man, half bull. He ate anything that dared to step foot in the maze.
We read that Theseus' father (King Aegeus) agreed to let Theseus travel to the maze to battle the Minotaur...
It was at this moment in the myth we stopped. Thinking carefully about Theseus' thoughts and feelings we wrote a paragraph from Theseus' point of view:

As I walked towards the maze I felt anxious and scared I thought that a calamity was about to happen. My heart was thumping as fast as a beating drum. I smelt stale blood and bull droppings I may have been scared but inside I was fearless.

As I walked towards the maze I felt terrified but I didn’t stop. I got deeper and deeper I smelt flesh and blood and herd the bellow of the Minotaur the man eating beast. There was a bone on the floor along with scratching of hooves.

As I walked towards the maze I was confident to kill the beast. In the maze it was dark and it smelt like the inside of a human body there was blood that covered the walls and I heard roars from the great beast as I got closer to the horrible beast I got more frightened.

As I walked towards the maze I saw blood sprayed up the walls’ herd the Minotaur slurping up the last of the blood from the last person that entered the maze. Quite scared now I approached the Minotaur trying to defeat this horrible beast.

As I walked into the deserted filled maze I gagged from the rotten smell of flesh. I felt determine to kill this thing once and for all. I heard the roaring, I continued walking as I walked I stepped on some charred bones. But then I came face to face with the horrifying beast, I froze and I stopped

As I walked into the maze, I saw blood stains on the floor, brains rolling around like bowling balls and smashed spines dangling from the sealing heard roars and grunts and horns scraping down the walls, but I could not find the minotour. My blood ran cold ,thinking, “I am crazy to come down with this challenge” .I took my first step in feeling dizzy and sick shaking and terrified.
