Our second 100 word challenge was this picture, and included these words:

Carefully
Gold
Bright
Clear

Happiness

Here are some of our attempts:

Phillip was bored. He had been stuck on an island in the middle of the sea for 1 and a half years. When Phillip saw some seaweed he picked it up and decided that he could have it for his tea. But when he grabbed it he saw something under it. There sitting on the gold sand was a clear bottle. The bright sun reflected off the shiny bottle. As Phillip carefully opened the letter he was filled with joy and happiness. The letter he had opened wasn’t a letter,but it was a map!

Once upon a time, there was a girl called Shelly and she lived on her own on a sandy island. One sunny day a message in a bottle arrived on the edge of the sand. The gold bright sun was shining and happiness broke upon her. Carefully she read the message she smelt roses she felt love she heard seagulls and she tasted romance. She had a love letter!!! She didn’t know what to do there was no one el’s with her. Should she send one back? She will decide.

Some of our first 100 word challenges!

As we mentioned a week ago on the blog - to help improve our writing and typing skills, each week we will be undertaking a 100 word challenge.



Our first picture was a scary looking street, and our 5 words included: Shadows, Carefully, Darkness, Clouds, Moon.

Here's some of our first attempts:

I walked down a dark alleyway, with the shadows tapping on my fragile back.  The moon was so dull it was like it had been lit and carefully blown out by a giant. The grey clouds were looming in around me as I started to run to the mask shop.  The lady inside was old and had a bundle of the most exqiusite, delicious cakes.  She let me take a bag with me. I told her about the clouds that had chased me down the old, creaky, scary road.  I  now hate the darkness.

A man walked down a street, the shadows crept bhind him. The wind howled like wolves in a pack. The moon shone brightly it was like it was sitting on the clouds. The gloomy darkness made it hard to see. He carefully crept behind a wall he could hear the voice of 'Blood' the leader of a bad gang. Then the lights started to flicker "zap zzz" he could hear screaming of people then he saw a light moving. It was just his imagination he made it out of the street alive.

I was walking in complete darkness. Suddenly I turned around and ghostly shaped shadows were following me. I ran away so fast I tripped over and I stayed hidden in the dark clouds. The moon shone right next to me and a creepy, brown, hairy werewolf attacked me. Then I fell to the ground. I was shocked and in horror but then a witch flew over me and carefully sprinkled me in glitter. Just then I started flying so fast but I fell to the ground. Suddenly I shot back up into the air flying past the birds and a massive aeroplane.

William Morris designs

William Morris (24 March 1834 – 3 October 1896) was English he designed wallpapers for people who didn’t live in the countryside to see the wildlife. Other than that he wrote some books News from Nowhere, The Well at the World's End, The Wood beyond the World, A Dream of John Ball and The House of the Wolfings. His mums name was Emma Morris and dads name was also William Morris.

We had a William Morris design we chose a picture of our choice we stuck in the centre of an A4 piece of paper and we extended the picture and after that we coloured it with a pencil crayon.

100 Word Challenge!

To help improve our writing and typing skills, each week we will be undertaking a 100 word challenge. This involves trying to write a story opener or paragraph inspired by a picture.

7th March 1892

We visited Great Cressingham Victorian School on Wednesday, to see what it was like going to school during the Victorian period.

We had to dress up in Victorian clothes. The boys wore flat caps, and waistcoats. The girls wore ribbons in their hair and long skirts.

We were taught by Mrs North and Miss Fagin and had to do lots of different Victorian activities.

We had to write on slate boards, read, and do maths – the 3 r’s!

We were allowed to play outside with some Victorian toys. The boys were allowed metal hoops and skittles. The girl’s played with wooden hoops and sticks, hop-scotch and skipping.

For our lunch we were only allowed to have cheese, bread, apples, carrots and a piece of cake. We were served water to drink!

At the end of the day we were allowed to write in ink, and we practised our handwriting. Benjamin and Miesha were also presented with a certificate each – to show how good their attendance had been.

It was a great day and we enjoyed ourselves, we learnt so much about oil lamps, slate boards, toys, and what it was like to go to school in 1892. However we were all pleased to return to 2012 and technology!
